Kaleidoscope pattern test
Oooh, I think you’re going to love this pattern.
Kaleidoscope happened during an experiment to see if a traditional granny square construction would work in Tunisian Crochet. I knew it already did, but what I didn’t know was whether it could work well in stripes. It turns out you can, if you work single-ended with a connecting stitch.
Kaleidoscope is intentionally striped. You cannot make this pattern in one colour. You need two colours at a minimum - same quantity of each.

SUPPLIES
Kaleidoscope works partly in rows and mostly in the round. The same hook and cable is used for both.
· 6mm interchangeable Tunisian hook with a cable between 60cm/24in – 127cm/50in.
· Removable stitch markers
· Darning needle
YARN
This pattern is intended to be made in a main colour (MC) and a contrast colour (CC). The contrast colour can be 1 colour or made up of mini skeins (or leftovers). You will need an even amount of MC and CC.
I used: Skip Rope Yarn Co, Nine to Five Sock.
80% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon, 100g/400m/437y.
My size 3 sample used:
MC: Hello Gorgeous – 2 skeins = 200g
CC: 10 x 20g mini skein set = 200g
GAUGE
20 tss sts x 17 rows = 10cm/4in square.
SIZES, MEASUREMENTS & METERAGE
Aim to make the size that gives you a minimum of 10cm/4in positive ease on your widest body measurement (normally bust or tummy). There is no shaping in this top, so it needs to accommodate your widest body measurement.
Read these tables carefully before you choose the size you want to make. Remember to include about 10cm/4in positive ease on to your bust measurement to choose the size.
Both sleeves will be long! I’m just saving space by only drawing one….
Skills used
Work in the round with the connecting stitch - see tutorial. This technique is used on the back, the shoulder rounds, the torso rounds and the sleeves.
I have made a specific video for the start of the back - this is a little tricky. If you’ve never worked connecting stitch before, I want you to try the tutorial with a small swatch (40 sts minimum) before you commit to this test.

Test details
This test will be run on Discord. This will be the first time I’ve used Discord (I previously used Slack). Usability is quite simple.
You will need to fill in an application form and submit it before the application deadline.
You will be required to make the whole garment, block it and take modelled photos for use on my website and social media. If you are not ok with this, please don’t apply.
Important dates
25 July 2026 - test announcement
1 August 2026 - test applications close (midnight Australian Eastern standard time). I will review applications on 2 August.
2 August 2026 - discord channel creation, testers invited to channel. Test commences.
17 October 2026 - Aim to complete your finished Kaleidoscope. This is 2.5 months. I will extend the test deadline if needed.
