Pattern testing is a fun learning experience!

I’ve been running pattern tests for my Tunisian crochet patterns for a number of years now. It’s been a learning curve for both me as a designer and for my volunteer testers. I love that I have testers all around the world.

How Abbeymade tests work

  1. Sign up to the tester announcement mailing list. When a pattern is ready for testing, I will email the details about the pattern and how to apply to test the pattern.

  2. If selected you will be invited to a private tester group. From July 2026 onward, these groups will be on my Discord server. The pattern will be posted in the private group. Most of my patterns will be tech edited before posting.

  3. You make the pattern. You can ask questions and chat with me and the other testers in the group any time. The other testers are usually very helpful.

  4. There will be a test deadline. Small projects (1 skein or less) will have a test window of around 2-3 weeks. Garments will have around 2-3 months. The deadline will be pushed out to accommodate testers if most are not finished by the deadline. I’m usually pretty flexible about this.

Expectations of testers

  • That you provide honest feedback and ask as many questions as you like about the pattern in the tester group. I consider all constructive feedback.

  • That you don’t share the pattern outside the tester group.

  • Kind and awesome communication with everyone involved in the test.

  • If life happens and you need to withdraw from a test, that you tell me. If you vanish without completing the test, you won’t be asked to test again.

  • That you take and send me modelled photos. The point of my tests is to ensure my size inclusive garments are suitable for different body types and I want to show you off when you complete my patterns!
