It’s hard for me to believe this but I caked up my yarn for the first prototype of this pattern in January 2026 and now it’s November 2026.
In that time, I have made two complete prototypes (with different pattern maths), had the written pattern tech edited and had 10 testers make it from start to finish. That’s not to mention the other makes I’ve had on the go in that time as well as completely redo my website and branding! Phew… that’s a long story for another post!
You can find all the details about the Kaleidoscope Jumper on the pattern listing page both here on my website and on its Ravelry listing. I don’t mind which platform you use but if you purchase through my website, my fees are a bit less than through Ravelry.
This pattern happened during an experiment to see if a traditional granny square construction would work in Tunisian crochet. I knew it already did, but what I didn’t know was whether it could work in stripes. It turns out you can, if you work single-ended with a connecting stitch. This opened new possibilities for my yarn stash, which included several sets of minis. If you pair enough mini skeins with a single contrasting colour, you can make a top that literally makes you go cross eyed when you look at it. Hence, Kaleidoscope! This pattern is intentionally striped. If you want to make it all in one colour, I recommend the Vee Tee instead.
SUPPLIES
Kaleidoscope works partly in rows and mostly in the round. The same hook and cable is used for both.
• 6mm interchangeable Tunisian hook with a cable between 60cm/24in – 127cm/50in. (Adjust to achieve gauge)
• Removable stitch markers
• Darning needle
YARN
This pattern is intended to be made in a main colour (MC) and a contrast colour (CC). The contrast colour can be 1 colour or made up of mini skeins (or leftovers).
You will need an even amount of MC and CC.
Skip Rope Yarn Co, Nine to Five Sock. 80% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon, 100g/400m/437y.
My size 3 sample used:
MC: Hello Gorgeous – 2 skeins = 200g
CC: 10 x 20g mini skein set = 200g
GAUGE
20 tss sts x 17 rows = 10cm/4in square after a full wet block and dry.
SIZES, MEASUREMENTS & METERAGE
This pattern includes 9 sizes for adults labelled as 1-9 in tables or (1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9).
Aim to make the size that gives you a minimum of 10cm/4in positive ease on your widest body measurement (normally bust or tummy). There is no shaping in this top, so it needs to accommodate your widest body measurement.
Sleeve height / circumference, torso and sleeve lengths are adjustable.

SKILLS
Tss, tks, ttop, tts are the main stitches to make this jumper. You will use the connecting stitch to work in rounds.
The only seams in this jumper are under the armpits, the remaining parts of the jumper are joined together with Tunisian crochet.
Note that this is an unusual construction which is what makes it fun!
Pattern includes a schematic, image appendix, a shoulder rounds appendix and several videos created specifically for the pattern.
Below are photos from my amazing group of testers. I was amazed for this test how many of these women are semi-local to me. That’s telling me that I’m hitting the mark in making designs that Australian makers want to make - as well as my international friends. Happy dance!
This pattern is once again, fully size inclusive. My testers had a mix of mods to fit their bodies: from doing additional or fewer shoulder rounds (to achieve the right width), to changing the size of their sleeve circumference (to suit bicep measurements), tailoring sleeve and torso length, adding a split in the base of the torso and playing around with border colour changes. I’m always happy for testers to do minor mods in their makes because this is what inclusive making is all about. The design does not come with a police officer that stands above you telling you’re doing it wrong!
If testing is something that you’re interested in, you will hear big test announcements through signing up to my tester announcement email list - here.
For some of my minor tests, I get a bit lazy and I announce it to my tester pool on Discord. I will happily add you to my Discord server if you contact me and let me know your Discord user name. I’m still learning Discord (I’m used to Slack) but I’m doing ok so far.
Kaleidoscope was my first test using Discord and I’m really happy with it, so I’m staying.
