Wattle Arc Shawl

$10.00

This pattern was written especially for the Fibre With Friends Alpaca retreat in 2019.

Blackwattle’s beautifully speckled alpaca yarn led me straight to curves and asymmetry. Tunisian crochet short rows have been used in combination with rows of single crochet to achieve complementary curves.

There are techniques in this pattern that may be unfamiliar to some. To assist those with learning something new, a photo tutorial is provided to demonstrate the concepts and terms used in the shawl pattern.

Thank you Blackwattle Yarn from Murrumbateman, NSW for supplying such gorgeous yarn for this pattern. This yarn is no longer available however, the Blackwattle colour ways are now exclusively available from Skein Machine in Adelaide, Australia.
The ‘Waratah’ yarn is 100% alpaca. If you are making your shawl in a more stretchy fibre, such as merino, you may wish to start with a smaller hook than 7mm to achieve gauge. As this is a shawl, gauge doesn’t need to be perfect however it will assist you to determine yardage.

Supplies:

  • 2 × 100g skeins of 4 ply (fingering weight yarn)

  • 5mm crochet hook

  • 7mm crochet hook

A long Tunisian hook is not required to make this pattern.
