Kaleidoscope Blanket

$10.00

Firstly, let me tell you that this is a gateway project. You know, like a drug. Once you’ve mastered these squares and you’re literally hooked, I want to introduce you to a couple of garment patterns that start with the same granny square principle as these. If you meander into those garment patterns, you’ll be able to not only lounge under a blanket of Tunisian granny squares, but you’ll also be able to wear them as a singlet, tee or jumper. Hopefully you’ll never look at a traditional granny square the same way again. Then, muhaha my mission is complete!
This pattern is intended as a stash busting project. Pair a main colour with a random assortment of contrast colours. I used the leftovers of my past projects as my contrast colours. Not only is this a good use of scraps, but it also served me as a memory project where I got to remind myself of past successes (and failures).

SUPPLIES
Interchangeable Tunisian hook with a cable at least 40cm/18in long. My sample used a 6mm hook with fingering weight yarn. Pointy hooks are best.
5mm crochet hook for edging
Darning needle

YARN
This pattern is intended to be made in a main colour (MC) and a contrast colour (CC). You will use slightly more of the MC in each square than you do of the CC because of the bind off.
My sample is made in Australian 4 ply / fingering weight yarn.

I wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to Adagio Mills for the grey alpaca/merino yarn I used for my main colour. I highly recommend this yarn!

SIZE
You can make individual Tunisian granny squares as large or small as you wish. Size is adjustable by simply adding or subtracting rounds.

SKILLS
Stitches: Tunisian simple stitch (tss), Tunisian knit stitch (tks), Tunisian top stitch (Ttop), connecting stitch, hdc, hdc in the third loop, invisible join.
Ok that sounds like a lot of stitches, but please don’t be put off by that, it’s really not scary.
This pattern comes with two videos filmed just for the pattern, they’re unlisted so you can’t see them until you purchase the pattern. They demonstrate pretty much everything you need to know to make the squares and join them.
